Endesa Awards €3.62 Billion Iberia Grid Infrastructure Contract for 2026-2032 Network Modernization Program
Endesa, together with companies and permanent establishments of the Enel Group operating in Spain and Portugal, has awarded a major €3.62 billion grid infrastructure contract under the PRJ_128496 – W_GRIDS_ES_MS MTBT-TeT – GRIDS Iberia 2026-29/32 program. The award marks one of the largest electricity network procurement initiatives in the Iberian Peninsula, supporting the modernization, maintenance, and expansion of power distribution infrastructure across multiple regions.
The contract was awarded on 13 May 2026 and published on 11 June 2026 as part of Endesa's long-term strategy to strengthen grid reliability, improve network resilience, and facilitate the energy transition.
Major Investment in Spain's Power Distribution Network
The procurement covers MTBT (Medium and Low Voltage Multiservices) and TeT (Voltage Works) activities for E-Distribución Redes Digitales and Endesa Ingeniería. The framework encompasses dozens of regional lots across Spain, including Andalusia, Catalonia, Aragón, the Balearic Islands, Ceuta, and other strategic service areas.
Valued at €3,615,807,213, the contract includes network construction, maintenance, modernization, technical upgrades, and operational support services essential for the performance of Spain's electricity distribution system through 2029–2032.
Multiple Contractors Selected for Regional Delivery
The award has been distributed among a consortium of leading engineering, infrastructure, and energy services companies, including Montajes Eléctricos y Fomentos del Sur (AMETEL), Elecnor Servicios y Proyectos, Eiffage Energía, Ortiz Construcciones y Proyectos, Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios, COMSA Instalaciones, Dominion I&I Applied Engineering, Zener Communications, Enitec Electric, Tensa, and several joint ventures and regional specialists.
The multi-supplier approach is designed to ensure efficient project delivery across numerous geographical regions while providing flexibility for large-scale network maintenance and expansion activities.
Supporting Energy Transition and Grid Resilience
As Spain accelerates renewable energy integration and electrification initiatives, investment in distribution infrastructure has become increasingly important. Modern electricity networks are essential for accommodating renewable generation, electric vehicle adoption, smart grid technologies, and growing energy demand.
The GRIDS Iberia program is expected to strengthen network reliability, reduce service interruptions, improve operational efficiency, and support the transition toward a more sustainable energy system.
Economic and Industry Impact
The contract is expected to generate substantial economic activity throughout Spain's engineering, construction, telecommunications, and energy services sectors. Thousands of jobs could be supported through network development activities, supply chain participation, and long-term maintenance operations.
The award also reinforces Endesa's commitment to infrastructure investment as part of broader European energy modernization efforts.
Looking Ahead
With contracts now awarded, the selected companies will begin delivering regional grid modernization and maintenance projects across Spain under the GRIDS Iberia 2026–2032 framework. Industry stakeholders will closely monitor the program as it plays a crucial role in enhancing electricity network performance and supporting Spain's clean energy ambitions.
