Description:
The National Geographic Institute, IGN, in the exercise of its powers and in its commitment to scientific excellence and contribution to astronomical and geodetic research on a global scale, initiated the RAEGE project, Atlantic Network of Geodynamic and Space Stations in 2010.

This projectd0311b314139639afa8d9993705f8a28ecto plans to install four fundamental geodetic stations: one in Yebes, Guadalajara; another in the Canary Islands (Gran Canaria), and two in the Azores islands (on the islands of Santa Maria and Flores). These stations will be equipped with a 13.2 meter diameter radio telescope, with the characteristicstics specified by the VGOS (VLBI Global Observing System) project, in addition to the complementary geodetic and geophysical instrumentation and equipment, such as a telescope for Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) in the case of the Yebes station, permanent GNSS stations and a supercond gravimeter.uctor
The RAEGE stations of Yebes and Santa Maria are already operational and carry out their observations regularly, providing data to the scientific community. It is now the turn to develop the Gran Canaria station
After a search for the optimal location in Gran Canaria, carrying out mBased on the level of interference and geotechnical studies, the one finally selected for the RAEGE station, due to various technical and environmental factors, is located on a 24,000 m2 plot, in the municipality of Agueimes, in the area called Altos de Temisas.
