Contracting of Services to improve the state of the existing canals in the irrigable areas of general interest of the state in the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation, in order to promote savings, efficiency and sustainability in the use of water resources (ZG/Zaragoza) Irrigation has been fundamental in the Spanish agrarian economy, promoting rural development, employment and agricultural productivity. Currently, the agricultural sector consumes around 70% of the country's water resources. However, irrigation infrastructures present losses of between 30% and 40%, aggravated by the scarcity and degradation of water resources, which requires urgent modernization and improvements. Decree 118/1973 established the execution of irrigation works under the responsibility of the then Ministry of Works Public, powers that today fall to the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. The state-owned infrastructures managed by the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation, many decades old, require actions to reduce losses and ensure sustainable use of water.
