- The object of the projected contract is to carry out studies on irradiated nuclear fuel in hot cells at the JRC/Karlsruhe. The general scheme of project activities is as follows:A) Nuclear fuel leaching studies:A.1. Oxidizing conditionsThe effect will be studiedor from the contact solution using cementitious waters and bicarbonated waters as a leaching agent under oxidizing conditions, in tests in hot cells at different temperatures and degrees of fuel burning. The effect of damaged fuel rods will be evaluated.A.2. Network conditionsuctorasThe effect of the leaching agent on the behavior of spent nuclear fuel will be studied, using both bicarbonated and cementitious waters under reducing conditions.B) Characterization of nuclear fuel: Fuel segments will be analyzed using the technique based onn the Raman effect, among others. Raman spectroscopy will also be used to identify the secondary phases that are formed. C) Modeling and documentation: Throughout the project, the team will participate in the design, proposal and modeling of the experiments, as well as in the interpretationtion of results obtained and their documentation.
